Opening soccer game of the 2008-2009 season

Last Sunday we took the opportunity to go to the opening soccer game of the 2008-2009 season. We went to see the home team, AS Roma play in the Stadio Olimpico, which was built for the Olympics in Rome in 1940.

Unfortunately things started to get a little crazy at halftime when busloads of Napoli fans showed up in a bad mood and started making trouble. This is a shot of the gates outside the stadium with the crowds of people trying to get in and the police keeping the majority of them out.......


Those that the police let in had evidently brought flares and fireworks with them, which they promptly set off when Napoli scored to tie the game at 1-1. Talk about atmosphere....!
